These are places where decay causing plaque can build up. Some of the pits and fissures are so narrow that even a single bristle from your toothbrush can’t get deep enough to clean them out.
Fissure sealants are a preventative measure to help protect the tooth from future decay in these pits and fissures.
Applying Fissure Sealants
The tooth is first cleaned and prepared with a solution
The sealant is then applied to the prepared area and cured with a special light which sets the sealant for immediate use.
This procedure is completely painless and usually requires no drilling or removal of tooth material.
