About Emergencies
- Abscessed tooth or swelling. If you have swelling or lumps on the outside of your face, it could be due to an abscess or infection, and when left untreated, they spread quickly. The moment you notice swelling, contact an emergency dental clinic.
- Tooth pain or hypersensitivity. Tooth pain can come as a sharp pain or a consistent dull throbbing, and it tends to interrupt day-to-day life. Book an emergency dental appointment so we can take care of it quickly for you.
- Dental trauma or missing teeth. If you’ve suffered a tooth injury or knocked it out altogether, call our team of professionals as soon as possible.
- Broken or chipped teeth. Sometimes, cracked, chipped, or broken teeth cause quite a bit of discomfort, so get into the clinic so we can assess the situation.
- Crown or bridge falling off. If you notice your crown or bridge coming off or it’s already fallen off, don’t panic. We can take care of it for you.
- Gum infection and bleeding. Gum pain, loose teeth, and bleeding or swelling gums are all reasons to make an appointment with our emergency dental clinic.
- If you’ve lost a tooth, don’t touch the root. If you can’t put your tooth back into the socket, avoid touching the root at all costs.
- Don’t ignore your pain. If you’re in pain, don’t brush it off. Pain is your body’s way of telling you something is wrong, so try to take it seriously. The longer you ignore tooth pain, the worse the issue will get, so make an appointment as soon as you start experiencing discomfort.
- Don’t go to the emergency room. A dental emergency is a medical emergency, but it’s not handled the same way as a hospital emergency. If you head to your local ER, either they’ll send you away or have to try and find a dentist to see you. The ER can only help with your teeth if you present to triage with a broken jaw.
- Don’t use home remedies. Certain home remedies are great for temporary pain relief, but they aren’t long-term dental solutions. The only definitive way to address tooth pain is a visit to the dentist.
- Take a deep breath.No matter how big or small the emergency is, it’s normal to feel a bit of panic. However, it’s important to regulate your emotions, stay calm, and make the best decisions for your well-being.
- If there’s bleeding, try to stop it. Mouth injuries tend to bleed a lot. First, wash the area with water and apply a cold compress until the bleeding stops. If it won’t stop after a few minutes, place some thick cotton gauze on the affected area and bite down to stem the flow.
- Use a cold compress for swelling. Place a cold compress on the affected area for a few minutes at a time to numb pain and reduce swelling.
- Keep your mouth clean. If you’re suffering severe tooth pain, brush, floss and wash your mouth out with warm water and salt to prevent bacterial infection in the mouth. If the pain is immense and you can’t see your dentist right away, ask for painkillers to relieve the discomfort.
- If you knock a tooth out, put it back in the socket. To give your dentist a chance to restore your original tooth, rinse it in milk or saline solution and try to put it back in the socket. If you can’t, keep it in a container of milk or your saliva until your dentist can look at it.
