Dental Clinic Infection Control
At Granite Belt Dental, we take safety and hygiene responsibilities very seriously. Our dental clinic infection control and prevention protocols ensure the highest level of safety for our patients and team.
Granite Belt Dental complies with the Public Health Act 2005 (Qld) by maintaining an Infection Control Management Plan (ICMP) which is reviewed and assessed at least annually. Our infection prevention and control protocols are based upon upon guidelines set down by the Australian Dental Association, Standards Australia, the Australian Government Department of Health and Aging and the Dental Board of Australia, our protocols are regularly reviewed and kept up to date.
Our infection prevention and control protocols include but are not limited to:
- Good hand hygiene
- Wearing personal protective equipment such as gloves, mask and bibs.
- Vaccination Policy
- Efficient handling of instruments
- Disposal of single-use instruments and sharps into the appropriate containers
- Sterilisation of instruments/equipment at Australian standards
- Preparation and cleaning of patient treatment areas, including Pre- and post- procedure, daily, and weekly cleaning
- Accidental injury and reporting
Dental Clinic Infection Control Procedures
We have developed infection control procedures that are tailored to our practice and the procedures we carry out on a regular basis. We have developed these in accordance to resources such as the Australian Dental Association’s ADA Guidelines for Infection Control, The Dental Board of Australia’s Guidelines for Infection Control, NHMRC Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare and AS/NZS 4815 and AS/NZS 4817 which are from The Australian and New Zealand Standards.
Staff Responsibilities
All staff, clinical operators (dentist or therapist), sterilising bay staff and chair side assistants are responsible for implementing good infection control procedures in our practice.
In addition to this, our staff have regular external and in-service training to keep up to date with current trends and changes in evidence-based practice.
